Concord is built on public information and open-source software. We are grateful to the projects and institutions below, and we use each in accordance with its terms. Where a source requires attribution, it is also shown next to the relevant content in the app.

Government and public-domain data

  • U.S. Congress: legislator roster via the unitedstates/congress-legislators project (public domain).
  • Congress.gov API: legislative and bill data (U.S. Government work, public domain).
  • Senate.gov: Senate roll-call votes (U.S. Government work, public domain).
  • Federal Election Commission (FEC): candidate filings and campaign finance data (public domain).
  • U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder: congressional district lookup (public domain).
  • State election authorities: official ballot measure listings.
  • California Secretary of State: ballot measure committee contribution totals (public record).

News coverage

News briefs are built from coverage metadata (headlines, links, and publication times, never article text) found through the GDELT Project, the Guardian Open Platform, and outlets’ public RSS feeds and YouTube channels. Each story links to its sources, and each outlet’s content remains its own.

Photography

Portraits of members of Congress, where shown, come from public-domain congressional sources (the unitedstates/images project) or from Wikimedia Commons. Portraits of state legislators come from Open States, which links the image published by the state legislature. Wikimedia images are used under their individual licenses, with author and license credited on the candidate’s page.

Typefaces

Concord uses DM Sans and DM Serif Display, open-source typefaces available through Google Fonts and licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.

Open-source software

Concord is built with React Native, Expo, React, and other open-source components, used under their respective licenses (primarily the MIT License). Full license texts for all bundled components are available on request and in the project’s source distribution.

Inclusion of a source does not imply that source endorses Concord. Government data is used for civic information only and does not represent the views of any agency.
